Extraction and interpretation are different jobs, and only one is automatable

Regulatory publications are long, and most of the content in any particular one relates to activities you do not perform. It takes hours to identify the part that applies, and even then the document still has to be read carefully.

The part that can be automated is narrowing the text. Deciding which sections refer to activities, data types, or relationships that match your business is a matching process against a description that you can write down.

Interpretation cannot be automated and should not be tried. What a provision requires of you, whether you meet that obligation today, and what you should change are questions for your advisers. Do not rely on a summary that answers those questions.

The result is a set of quoted passages, with a note explaining why each was included, given to the people who interpret. This is a research assistant, not a compliance opinion.

How the ActionFlow runs on the canvas

Matching runs against a business profile stored in a Notion node: the activities you perform, the data categories you handle, the jurisdictions in which you operate, and the relationships you have.

The publication is received through a Document Upload node or an HTTP Request node. A PDF4me node then extracts it.

The Extract Data node splits the document into sections. The Loop node walks those sections so that no single call has to handle a hundred pages.

The Generate Object node gives, for each section, whether it touches anything in the profile, the quoted passage, and which profile element it matched. The rule is to quote rather than paraphrase, because paraphrasing a regulatory provision would be an interpretation.

The Filter node drops sections that have no match. The Sort node arranges the remaining sections according to how central the matched activity is to your business.

A Notion node writes the digest, including quotes, section references, and the reasons for the matches. A Slack node then notifies legal.

Every page of the output includes this note: these are extracts for review and not an evaluation of the material relevant to you.

Nodes this ActionFlow uses

  • Notion (Integration): holds the business profile that matching runs against.
  • HTTP Request (Util): brings in the publication. Document Upload takes a supplied file.
  • PDF4me (Data) plus Extract Data (Data): extract and split into sections.
  • Loop (Control): walks sections so no call holds the whole document.
  • Generate Object (AI Core): returns quoted passages with the profile element each matched.
  • Filter (Data): drops sections with no match to your profile.
  • Notion (Integration): publishes the digest as extracts for review, explicitly not an assessment.
