Some gaps are decisions
Gap analysis tools list every keyword a competitor ranks for. Most of those keywords are not relevant to the products you sell. Several concern a market you deliberately do not serve. The genuine opportunities sit somewhere at row 340.
Sort from an understanding of your business, not from your search data. A gap is an opportunity only if acting on it would reach someone who can actually buy.
The sign that the agent is working is a recommendation to leave a gap open. If a competitor ranks for a use case you have decided not to support, that is not a gap. It is a sign that your positioning is having the desired effect.
Priority matters more than completeness. Closing ten gaps beats exporting a hundred that are then forgotten, which is the same as never dealing with them.
How the agent is built in Agent Studio
Record what you do not sell in prompt skills. If you do not clearly mark the markets you have decided to ignore, the agent will recommend entering them, because they look like uncovered demand from outside.
The system prompt specifies which kinds of gaps are worth closing for you, for example those relating to commercial intent, production cost, or topics you can credibly write. It also caps the maximum length of the list.
An HTTP Request node supplies competitor coverage. Another node supplies the sitemap of your own site. The flow assembles both and passes them through the Agent Chat node.
Calibrate fastest by reading the section that lists the gaps the agent recommends leaving open, and the short ranked list that gives a reason for each item.
Because sessions are durable, a marketer can continue the conversation with the list, drop unwanted items, and have the ranking recalculated rather than regenerated.
The cost of each analysis is visible. That matters when you are tempted to run it on an ever larger set of competitors.
What this agent is built from
- Prompt skills: state what you do not sell and the markets you have left alone.
- System prompt: specifies what makes a gap worth closing for you, and a cap on list length.
- HTTP Request (Util): supplies competitor coverage and your own sitemap.
- Agent Chat (Util): hands the assembled comparison over for judgment.
- Notion (Integration): receives the ranked list plus the gaps to leave open.
- Durable sessions: let you reject an item and have the ranking reasoned again, not regenerated.
- When an ActionFlow is enough: Pulling a keyword gap export is part of the workflow. The agent incurs its cost at the judgment step.
